    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

    This program is designed to provide students with the technical knowledge and hands on experience of the automotive repair process. Students enrolled in this program learn to accurately locate and diagnose the source of on-board computer system malfunctions using digital diagnostic equipment. Students will learn to make proper repairs and perform periodic maintenance inspections to maintain today’s highly technical automobiles in top running condition. The Automotive Program is certified through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), a nationally-recognized agency in the automotive industry.

     

    PROFILE OF SUCCESSFUL STUDENT

    An automotive technician needs to have good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, hearing, mechanical ability and patience. Good reading skills and a working knowledge of math are important to properly interpret charts and technical manuals. Interpersonal skills, the ability to deal with the public and the capacity to work on your own are also important. The ability to diagnose the source of a problem quickly and accurately requires good reasoning skills and problem solving skills. Computer skills are also helpful. At a minimum, it is recommended that students follow an academic schedule that consists of college prep courses in English, math, science, and humanities.
