About Our School
The Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center is a part-time career and technology center located in Latrobe, Westmoreland County. The CTC serves over 575 students from three public school districts: Greater Latrobe, Derry Area and Ligonier Valley. EWCTC offers 15 programs in one of five career clusters—Automotive, Construction, Communications and Information Technology, Manufacturing and Services. Students can obtain nationally recognized certification in 13 of our 15 programs. At EWCTC we believe that high levels of both academic knowledge and technical skills are vital to student achievement. As educators it is our business to create opportunities for students and to provide the support needed for success. Effective interpersonal skills are essential to success in all aspects of life. It is our belief that the responsibility for improving student achievement is shared by students and teachers and is actively supported by parents and the business community. It is our goal to focus on rigor, relevance and relationships.
It’s NOT the "Vo-Tech" It Used to Be!!
We offer highly technical programs that provide the challenge and rigor required to compete in the workforce. Secondly, nearly 50% of our students go on to pursue post-secondary education. Because of this, many opportunities are available for students to earn college credits while still enrolled in their CTC program! The choice to attend post-secondary education is completely up to our students. Upon graduation, many of our students are industry certified and obtain employment immediately out of high school. Further, our programs prepare students for high priority occupations, which basically means that between now and 2016, jobs related to the program will be “in-demand”. Our placement rate for students is 96%. This means that 96% of our students are either employed, attend post-secondary school, or have enlisted into the armed forces.
Helping Students Learn, Succeed, and Grow!
Our students mean everything to us. It’s a lot like family at EWCTC—the teachers, administration, and staff strive to see students succeed both in and out of school. Our goal is to provide the best education to our students and we do this by hiring educators with proven industry experience, provide unique practical experiences, and practice hands -on skills in state-of-the-art labs. But we don’t stop there! We want our students to excel in their academic classes as well! That’s why all of our students participate in weekly or daily academic integration activities. Because of this initiative, we’ve seen sky rocking improvement in our students’ latest Keystone Exam scores in both reading and math!
